Wavelets and conjugate quadrature filters

This chapter is devoted to characterizing those conjugate quadrature filters that are associated with localized multiresolution analyses and, hence, with orthonormal wavelets. In view of Theorem 1.1, this amounts to characterizing those filters m 0 that come from a scaling function φ that satisfies the localization property (1.18) and whose integer translates form an orthonormal system.
