Career choices and difficulties
There are very many factors which influence the career people pursue, not all of which arise directly from conscious decisions of the people concerned. The pervading economic climate at the time of seeking the first employment situation will influence the number of posts and type of work which is available. In economically difficult times firms will not be in a position to make big investments in apprenticeships. The number of employees may be reduced through redundancy and natural wastage. Firms will look for value for money in the applicants who are accepted for employment.
