Theoretical Aspects of High Pressure Sintering

Abstract

Pressureless sintering and hot pressing are considered to have been much studied theoretically and experimentally. The results of these studies are, however, unusable to describe the mass transfer processes at high pressure. Sintering under these conditions is due to mechanisms of plastic deformation and diffusional creep and at high hydrostatic pressure, these processes may be considered to be competitive.
