Knowing How to Cure
The theory of lay epistemics addresses the general process of cognitive change. In contrast, cognitive therapy deals with a specific type of change: the substitution of functional cognitive elements for dysfunctional ones. Thus, cognitive therapy may be thought of as an application of general epistemic principles in order to effect change in specific cognitive contents characterized as maladaptive for the individual.
