Interviewing and Diagnosis
Chapter
Abstract
Competent care in outpatient psychiatric settings requires a sensitive and thorough evaluation of the patient’s condition. Such an evaluation will furnish the data base crucial to systematically designing a treatment plan that attends to the various problems and needs of the patient. Furthermore, the evaluation constitutes a critical opportunity for engaging the patient in the treatment process by creating in the patient a sense of confidence in and trust of the clinician.
