The Oxalate Tolerance Method and its Application to Investigations on Stone Formers and Normal Subjects

Abstract

The formation of solids in urine is determined by thermodynamic and kinetic factors. The oxalate tolerance value (OTV), that is, the oxalate concentration required for precipitation of solids in undiluted urine, was measured in order to discriminate between calcium-oxalate stone formers and non-stone-forming subjects.
