Abstract

My impressions of this meeting are quite positive. We have heard significant advances in microbial ecology, physiology, and genetics, including new organisms that were discovered, not created, and new concepts of how pathways might be tied together with new techniques. We’ve heard about major field applications that were considered unlikely speculations at the meeting four years ago. Many participants stated their surprise at how much progress in real applications had been achieved in this period.
