Resolving National Forest Management Disputes
The process outlined in Chapter 9 is an experimental one. If pursued, it would provide the U.S. Forest Service and its constituent groups with the opportunity to try reaching agreement on selected issues that currently divide them and, in so doing, to determine the potential for resolving a wider spectrum of disputes in the agency. The procedural steps comprising this experimental process are designed to supplement existing Forest Service decision-making processes. They have been developed recognizing and reinforcing the statutory authority and responsibilities of the Forest Service in national forest management.
