Endocarditis Prophylaxis

  • Nelson M. Gantz

Abstract

The subject of endocarditis prophylaxis continues to stir controversy. Despite recommendations for prevention of endocarditis from committees of the American Heart Association,1 Working Party of the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy,2 and the Medical Letter,3 these guidelines are not based on controlled clinical studies. No such studies have been published or are likely to be forthcoming.
