Variability in Phytoplankton Absorption Spectra: Photoadaptation and Mixing in Vestfjord, Norway

Abstract

Absorption spectra were measured for particles collected on glass filters in Vestfjord, Norway during September, 1990. Particles from this dinoflagellate-dominated phytoplankton community exhibited strong absorption peaks and shoulders in the absorption spectra at 415 nm. In the euphotic zone, the absorption signal was dominated by phytoplankton, with detrital or other nonphytoplanktonic particles dominating at depth.
