Abstract

The concept and the technique of using ultrasonic antiresonance to determine elastic constants of thin-plate anisotropic media have recently been introduced by the authors [1]. The technique is based on measurement of obliquely incident ultrasonic beam zero-transmission angles and reconstruction from these angles of the composite elastic constants. Such a technique is particularly useful for measuring elastic constants of anisotropic plates and it has a unique capacity to measure in-plane elastic constants of thin anisotropic plates. So far this technique has been applied successfully to the determination of elastic constants of composite materials containing many rows of fibers [1–3].
