An Introduction to Surface Diffusion Measurements

Abstract

A brief overview of the contents of the book is attempted as a guide to the diverse topics discussed. Starting from the basic definition of surface diffusion, different coefficients (i.e. tracer vs. collective) are defined, how diffusion currents are generated (i.e. from equilibrium or non-equilibrium driving forces) is discussed and the relation between atomistic and collective processes measured in different experiments is emphasized. A table listing the currently used methods to study surface diffusion is presented.
