We have reached a point in our discussion where we have looked at most of the common algorithms that are in use today. However, our discussion has not yet finished as we can look at some of the less talked about algorithms, the algorithms that run without our operating system. In this chapter, we will explore some of the concepts of operating systems and look at some of the common scheduling algorithms that run within operating systems. The knowledge provided here can help you gain a deeper understanding of how some of the data structures you learned earlier can be implemented to facilitate the execution of algorithms. As you will see, much of the data structure knowledge you learned before will be used here.
