Incoherent Neutron Scattering and Infra-Red Measurements in Acetanilide and Derivatives

Abstract

Acetanilide, (ACN), is an anharmonic or thorhombic crystal characterised by soft hydrogen- bonded chains of molecules. Anomalies in the I.R. and Raman mode spectra have been observed at low temperature. The theoretical interpretations of these unconventional effects involve alternatively, Davydov-like solitons, localized “polaronic” modes, topological defects or Fermi resonance
