Abstract

Oligophosphates whose anions correspond to the general formula P n O(3n+1) (n+2)- have not yet been systematically investigated. A large number of diphosphates and triphosphates (n = 2 and 3) are presently well characterized, but examples with n = 4 and n = 5 are rather rare. This slow development, common to many areas of condensed phosphate chemistry, can probably be attributed to the lack of convenient starting materials for the preparation of these higher oligophosphates.
