Radiative Damping and a Semiclassical Two-Level Atom

Abstract

As it is known, the classical approach to the problem of a matter-field interaction gives rise to the concept of a radiative damping (RD) 1. It means appearance of an intrinsic friction in the model of a classical oscillator. However, under customary approach in classical molecular optics the RD effects always are disregarded. hi Ref.2 RD effects were considered together with the discrete properties of the medium. And only with allowance of the both of these factors a model of frictionless classical oscillator, usually adopted under application of Lorentz-Lorenz formula to transparent optical media, acquires a basis for adoptation.
