Nearly Ideal Squeezing in Degenerate Two-Photon Absorption in Three-Level Atoms

Abstract

We study single mode two-photon optical bistability, by full three-level treatment of a collection of atoms in an optical cavity, driven by an external coherent electromagnetic field. The Hamiltonian describing the interaction between the field and three-level atoms in a ladder configuration is:
where R+ (R − ) and S + (S − )re the collective atomic raising (lowering) operators for the two transitions, g r and g s are the corresponding coupling constants and A (A + ) is the annihilation (creation) operator for the field mode.
