Abstract

Norepinephrine (NE) iontophoresed in the dentate gyrus of anesthetized rat (Neuman and Harley, 1983) or superfused on the hippocampal slice (Lacaille and Harley, 1985; Stanton and Sarvey, 1986) produces a significant and reliable enhancement of the perforant-pathevoked population spike. This NE-induced enhancement of population spike amplitude can last for many minutes or hours.
