Synthesis of Amides and Further Carboxylic Acid Derivatives
Chapters 6 and 7 are devoted, respectively, to syntheses of carboxylic acids and esters, and the present chapter covers carbonylation-based routes to other carboxylic acid derivatives. Included here are amides, anhydrides, acyl halides, urethanes, ureas, and isocyanates. The last three types of compound can be viewed, respectively, as the products of esterification, amidation, and dehydration of carbamic acids (RNHCOOH), and carbonylative syntheses of such materials are currently of growing scientific and technological interest.
