Abstract

Since dialogue is so deeply rooted in our own values and our perceptions of the worth of marginalized individuals, it is critical that we understand the total commitment that such genuine openness requires. Dialogue calls on us to recognize our own and the other person’s reality, to judge the way that we can open ourselves to him or her, and then enter into a process that leads to the establishment of feelings of companionship.
