Abstract

In RPAE the photoelectron wavefunction is calculated in the “frozen” field of the ion, while that for the vacancy is calculated in the field of the neutral atom. It was demonstrated in Chapter 6 how the formation of a vacancy significantly alters the field that acts upon the photoelectron. This comes about due to static rearrangement and vacancy decay. Further corrections to the electron and vacancy [160] wavefunctions form an essential element towards developing an atomic photoionization [161] approach more accurate than RPAE or its generalization discussed in Chapter 6.
