Using Ceramics to Answer Questions

II. Ceramic Use and Ceramic Production and Distribution
  • Carla M. Sinopoli

Abstract

Along with focusing on when things happened in the past through the construction of ceramic chronologies, ceramic analysis can also provide a useful approach for examining how people lived—the nature of their daily activities, and broader questions concerning past economies, political systems, social organization, and beliefs. In this chapter, I will examine aspects of the first two of these topics: how we can use ceramics to study activities and the study of ceramic production and distribution systems.
