Abstract

The foundation of the Hogan-Banks’ high density polyethylene (HDPE) process was (and still is) the chromium oxide/silica catalyst discovered in the early 1950’s. Its extreme versatility has permitted its continuous modernization over the last 35 years to make a wide variety of competitive resins. That Phillips has remained the largest manufacturer of HDPE in the world to this day is a strong testament to the utility of this catalyst system.
