Effect of Instability of Plastic Deformation during Creep on Long-Term Strength of Metals and Alloys

Abstract

We have discussed the long-term strength of tough and brittle failure. Simple phenomenological considerations concerning geometric stability combined with the inclusion of work-hardening during deformation enabled us to obtain the analytical equations σ 0 = f ), which give a good fit to the experimental data available. The main result of the work is that the long-term strength not only essentially depends on the structural factors but can also depend on various geometric features of the creep of the specimens.
