R&D of High Reliable Refrigeration System for Superconducting Generators
Super-GM has been promoting R&D on 70MW class superconducting generators (called Model Machines) in addition to their refrigeration system. The helium refrigeration system for the SCGs must meet a stringent requirement of reliability higher than that of conventional systems. So far, its nominal performance has been successfully confirmed through a factory testing program. Subsequently, its system has been shifted to the verification site and a series of commissioning runs were made to verify the specifications. These runs include a performance of low temperature adsorber housed in a cold box, which is an influential factor for its continuous operation. For developing an advanced refrigeration system, an oil free turbine-drive turbo compressor have been tested and clarified the performance.
The present paper will report the test results of adsorber capacity measurements, cooling-down/warming-up the Model Machine and the recent progress in development of turbine-drive turbo compressors applied for the advanced refrigeration system using the helium Brayton cycle.
