Abstract

It is still not known whether the modern method of describing interactions between elementary particles by means of the concepts of relativistic quantum field theory is correct, The failure of the Lagrangian formulation of quantum field theory to provide convincing and mathematically rigorous results and the difficulties inherent in perturbation theory have prompted a number of important investigations into the general structure of local field theory.
