Case V: Diagonal Front

Abstract

A front runs diagonally from SW to NE across a square of ocean 1000 km on a side (Fig. 11.1). The initial condition is a calm sea, and boundary conditions are no influx of wave energy and perfect absorption at the boundaries. The wind blows to the north SE of the front and to the west NW of the front, in both sectors at the same speed U 10 = 20 m/s. For grid points directly on the diagonal, the wind is taken to the north. The wave field is examined after the steady state has been achieved.
