Alkali Metal Intercalation-Deintercalation Reactions in 2D Oxides

Abstract

While much work has been devoted to intercalation reactions in graphite, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC) and clays, only a few studies have been reported on AxMO2 layer oxides (A : alkali ion, M : transition element x < 1)1,2,3. Stoichiometric AMO2 oxides have been mainly studied from a crystal chemistry point of view4,5. Although AxMO2 layer oxides show close likeness with intercalated TMDC they cannot exist in the unintercalated form. This property comes from the large electronegativity difference between the oxygen and the M element.
