It has long been considered that tea is good for health. However, it is clear from research over the last two decades, that the extent to which tea has had a beneficial influence on human health has been remarkable. Green tea has a long history in Japan, and the act of its consumption by Japanese people has had cultural and spiritual significance, with an affinity to the Buddhist philosophy of “wabi” (spiritual solitude) and “sabi” (element simplicity). At the same time it came to be the most commonly consumed beverage in Japan.
