Coupled and Multienzyme-Nylon Tube Reactors
One of the recent developments in enzyme technology was the demonstration that a nylon tube with enzymes bound to its inside surface may be used as a catalytic reactor coil for analytical purposes by using the flow through principle (1). Since then, this principle has been extended to many enzyme systems. A natural consequence of this early work has been the study of sequential reactions involving more than one enzyme. Here two coupled enzyme systems, namely Pyruvate Kinase — Lactate Dehydrogenase (PK — LDH) and Alkaline Phosphatase — Adenosine Deaminase (AP — ADA) are described indicating how more enzymes may be added to these systems to act in conjunction and to form multienzyme systems.
