Abstract

The drainage system in urban areas serves a large number of functions. The most important are:
  • Prevention of flooding.

  • Discharge of polluted wastewater in a sanitary acceptable way. Maintaining a minimum bearing capacity of the soil.

  • Guaranteeing accessibility within the area.

  • Providing reasonable hydrological conditions for urban aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems;

  • Creating an aesthetically acceptable environment.
