Abstract

The output of a sensor is an analogue of the quantity being measured, the measurand. Depending on the type of sensor, the output may be a voltage (mV or μV), a current or possibly another parameter, and it may have the same frequency as the measurand or it may have a carrier frequency modulated by the measurand. Most A/D converters require an input of a few volts at the same frequency as the measurand.
