Action Group 3: Junior Secondary School (Ages 11–16)
Mathematics for junior secondary school students provides a challenge for teachers. Thinking about curriculum has been in terms of completing the primary school experience at one extreme, or the senior secondary school mathematics program at the other. Problems arise because activities and materials are set too high or too low rather than focussing on the characteristics of learners in the 11 to 16 age range. They fail to deal with the transition from child to adult behaviours.
