Abstract

Located in southeastern Texas, the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System (MHHS) encompasses nine facilities whose services span specialty care, community, and academic settings. The facilities range in size from 50 to 870 beds. Specialty clinics affiliated with MHHS are in excess of 80. MHHS identified the need to develop a systemwide, consistent approach to patient care, providing healthcare professionals with information, resources, and processes that facilitate optimal, efficient clinical decision making. The phases of project initiation, design, build, test, and implementation at the first two facilities were accomplished over a 10-month period. The deployment throughout the MHHS enterprise was accomplished in 15 months.
