Nutrition Assessment and Nutrition Support in Intensive Care Unit Patients

Abstract

Malnutrition in the hospital setting remains largely underrecognized by health care workers despite increasing awareness of the value of nutrition in clinical practice. The incidence of malnutrition in hospitalized patients has remained the same over the past 20 years (40%–50%) despite progress in clinical nutrition. More importantly, studies show that many patients lose weight during their hospital stay.
