Neurobiological Features of Dopamine D2 Receptors
Two different isoforms of the dopamine D2 receptor exist in vivo, named D2L and D2S. These isoforms are derived by alternative splicing of the sixth exon of the gene (Dal Toso et al., 1989; Giros et al., 1989). D2L is the longer isoform composed of 444 amino acids (aa) in rat (Monsma et al., 1989; Chio et al., 1990) and mouse (Montmayeur et al., 1991) and 443 in human (Dal Toso et al., 1989; Giros et al., 1989; Grandy et al., 1989). D2S is instead composed of 415 aa in rat (Bunzow et al., 1988) and mouse (Montmayeur et al., 1991) and 414 in human (Dal Toso et al., 1989; Giros et al., 1989).
