Overview

To this point in the text, you have been analyzing data using exploratory methods. With this topic you will take a conceptual step backward by considering questions of how to collect data in the first place. The practice of statistics begins not after the data have been collected but prior to their collection. You will find that utilizing proper data collection strategies is critical to being able to draw meaningful conclusions from the data once it has been collected and analyzed. You will also discover that randomness plays an important role in data collection.
