Abstract

What sort of therapeutic relationship would best facilitate clients adopting more humane and constructive modes of self-criticism? The focus of this chapter will be on providing an answer to this question. Before turning directly to this answer, a general reminder of an important relationship between self-appraisal and the appraisal of other persons should be helpful to an understanding of the form that this answer will take.
