Information Systems: A Competitive Advantage for Managing Health Care

Abstract

The term “competitive advantage” is often used to describe business initiatives in health care and elsewhere. Yet only history can judge whether in fact an initiative did make a difference. Time must pass before the competitive impact of a particular product or service can be appropriately evaluated. Moreover, an apparent competitive advantage is difficult to sustain because it is limited by time until a competitor matches or exceeds the advantage. Regaining the advantage may be even more difficult.
