Aging Characteristics of Beta Titanium Alloys
Titanium alloys have been used in aerospace areas for their high strength-density ratios. Most of them have been alpha or alpha-beta titanium alloys, which have a difficult point of the lower cold deformability. On the contrary, beta titanium alloys which consist of a metastable beta structure stabilized to the room temperature in addition of the beta stabilizing element such as Mo, V and Cr, have a good cold deformability as well as the excellent aging properties and recently have been investigated actively for the various compositions(1)–(3) It was found in the previous investigations(4)–(9) that Ti-Mo base beta alloys, Ti-15Mo-5Zr and Ti-15Mo5Zr-3A1 have a good combination of corrosion resistance, cold de-formability, weldability and mechanical properties.
