On the Helminth Fauna of the Moufflon (Vois aries musimon) Compared with Those of Domestic Sheep (Ovies aries dom.) and Deer (Capreolus capreolus, Cervus elaphus) in the Netherlands

Abstract

The helminth fauna of the moufflon (Ovis aries musimon) in the Netherlands was investigated. Thirteen species of Nematodes, all from the digestivetract, were found. This nematode fauna resembled that of domestic sheep except for the absence of Teladorsagia davtiani, Trichostrongylus vitrinus and Cooperia curticei and the presence of Cooperia pectinata. The fauna differed largely from those in roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) and red deer (Cervus elaphus). While a small number of deer parasites were found about half of the specimens were small and showed anomalies of the spicules.
