Nutrition and Primary Health Care Services

Abstract

Nutrition is at the heart of effective primary health care, especially for the physiologically vulnerable (pregnant and lactating mothers and their young children), and for the culturally or economically disadvantaged, as with groups regarded as socially inferior and for confused new slumdwellers. The level of nutritional status is any community depends on many factors which can be summarized in the “community nutrition level” (CNL) equation (Fig. 1).
