Abstract

Since the important seminal paper by Walther [1] there has been a growing interest in radiometry [2–10] and interferometry [10–16] of partially coherent sources of time harmonic electromagnetic radiation, as well as in the inverse problem [4,6,9,14–16] of specifying the spatial correlation or intensity profile in the source plane from optical far-field data. These optical studies are complemented by current investigations of partial coherence in electron microscopy [16–18]. Statistically homogeneous [3–5,9] and quasi-homogeneous [1,7,10,14–16] model sources have been considered hitherto. The calculation [10] of the transfer factor that controls the radiant flux is of current interest.
