Dressed-Atom Approach to Resonance Fluorescence

Abstract

Resonance fluorescence, i.e., absorption and re-emission of resonance radiation by free atoms is theoretically described as spontaneous emission from the total system atom + impinging photons interacting together (dressed-atom). One shows how such an approach gives a simple quantitative understanding of the behaviour of an atom irradiated by an intense resonant laser beam.
