Phase Conjugation by Degenerate Four-Wave Mixing in Indium Antimonide
From studies of bandgap resonant nonlinear refraction in InSb an effective degenerate X(3) (ω : ω, — ω,ω) has been measured1,2 at 5K as ~ 0.1 esu and ~ 1 esu at 77K. This exceptionally large nonlinearity makes InSb an interesting candidate for optical devices and the observation of transphasor action3, optical bistability at cryogenic4 and room temperature 5 has been achieved. It has also been suggested that InSb may provide enhancement of the Sagnac effect in a ring-resonator system via the cross interaction of counterpropagating cavity modes.6
