Generalization of the Optical Bloch Equation to High Intensity Limit

Abstract

With the developement of high intensity laser, the coherent interaction of an atom with such strong incident field is now a practical subject. The basic equation to study the atomic response is the optical Bloch equation (OBE). The damping matrix in the conventional OBE is of the same form as that in the absence of incident field, due to the assumption that the incident field is properly weak such that it does not influence the relaxation process.
