Two-Photon Absorption Studies in Xenon

Abstract

Multiphoton excitation processes in the ultraviolet (UV) region allow highly energetic electronic states to be populated. With the availability of tuneable, high intensity UV laser sources these energetic states may be populated at substantial densities. In this paper, we report the results of a series of experiments performed at the Regional Laser Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania on two-photon pumping of energetic electronic states in xenon. The data pertain mostly to the two-photon cross-section, fluoresence quenching and collisonal broadening.
