Enhanced Squeezing in an Optically Bistable Two-Photon Medium

There has been a great deal of recent interest in the search of an optical system which exhibits significant squeezing.1–3 Most work to date concentrate on the temporal steady state limit in the presence of damping, with the conclusion that the resulting squeezing is not very significant. However, the t → ∞ result is not relevant to most experimental situations, in particular traveling wave systems. In this paper we study the transient behavior of a two-photon system with an added third-index nonlinearity. We find that the squeezing effect is significantly enhanced as it develops in time.
