An Electrically Controlled Guarded Flat Plate Calorimeter
A flat plate calorimeter that Is suitable for measuring the thermal conductivity of multiple layer and foam insulations from 350° to about 50°K has been constructed. This device is also suitable for measuring the total hemispherical emissivity as a function of temperature from 350° to 50°K, and the total hemispherical absorptivity at nitrogen, hydrogen, and helium temperatures. The total hemispherical emissivity of gold foil from 300° to 160°K has been measured and is reported to illustrate the operation of the system.
