Nucleate and Film Boiling Heat Transfer to Liquefied Natural Gas

Abstract

A number of investigators [1–5] have demonstrated that nucleate boiling and the burnout heat flux can be strongly concentration-dependent. Perry and Bonilla [2] studied nucleate boiling of ethanol-water solutions from a flat plate heating element at atmospheric pressure. It was reported that at 4% ethanol, the burnout heat flux was about 10% higher than those for either pure component. A more striking result was reported by van Stralen and co-workers [3–5] on studies of the burnout heat flux for solutions of methylethylketone (MEK) and water. It was found that at 4.1 wt.% MEK, the burnout heat flux was twice as high as that for either pure component.
